                           ✨ Gas Dryer Won’t Heat Up ✨




There could be several reasons why your gas dryer is not heating up.  Gas dryers are Easy to fix.  If you have a repair person come out, you’ll probably spend over $150.00.  Using this article you’ll probably spend around $10.00.


Here are some things you can check:


1. Gas supply: Make sure that the gas supply valve is open and the gas line is properly connected. You can also check if other gas appliances in your home are working properly. Make sure your gas line is not crimped.  Bad gas flow is seldom the reason for a dryer that doesn’t heat.


2. Igniter: The igniter is responsible for igniting the gas that heats up the dryer. If it's not working, the dryer won't heat. Check the igniter for any signs of wear or damage. If it's broken, it will need to be replaced.

Sometimes igniters will glow, but they are so worn out that they will not allow the gas valve to open and start the heating process.  A broken igniter can be the cause, but is also not common.

3. Gas valve solenoid: The gas valve solenoid controls the flow of gas to the burner. If it's faulty, the dryer won't heat. You can test the solenoid with a multimeter to see if it's functioning properly. If it's not, it will need to be replaced.  Gas valve solenoid’s are fairly inexpensive and easy to replace and are often the cause of a gas dryer that won’t heat.

4. Thermal fuse: The thermal fuse is a safety device that shuts off power to the dryer if it gets too hot. If the thermal fuse is blown, the dryer won't heat. You can test the thermal fuse with a multimeter. If it's blown, it will need to be replaced. A thermal fuse will blow due to a Clogged Dryer vent tube, and the thermal fuse is very inexpensive and is very often the cause of a gas dryer that will not heat.

5. Thermostat: The thermostat regulates the temperature inside the dryer. If it's faulty, the dryer won't heat properly. You can test the thermostat with a multimeter to see if it's functioning properly. If it's not, it will need to be replaced.  A worn out thermostat can prevent heating but is a rare occurrence .


When I’m asked to go fix a gas dryer.  The part that I’m most likely going to need to replace is the thermal fuse, along with cleaning out the dryer vent tube.

It’s so common for a vent tube to build up with lint. That causes the dryer heat to build up inside the dryer and blow the thermal fuse.  A blown thermal fuse will either cut all power to the dryer or it will just cut out heat.

After replacing or resetting a thermal fuse, make sure to clean out the dryer vent tube as shown in this video:

Make sure to clean out the dryer vent tube so you won’t trip the Hi-Limit Button again.
